Oberg slide collection, 1945-1973.

The collection contains approximately 400 slides documenting Northeastern University between 1945 and 1973. Most of the slides were taken by Doris Oberg, but a few were taken by Rudolph Oberg. The collection is described alphabetically according to the following themes, then chronologically: Athletics, Northeastern University Boston Campus, City of Boston, Events, Faculty, Mascot and Seal, Other Northeastern University Campuses, Presidents, and Student Activities. The collection is physically arranged numerically by the unique ID numbers assigned to each slide. Individual portraits of many of the university's faculty members largely date from 1949 to 1955. Most slides of Northeastern University buildings and student activities were taken after 1955. The slide numbers are indicated at the end of each title.

Asa S. Knowles (1909-1990) was President of the Associated Colleges of Upper New York (1946-1948), Vice-President of University Development at Cornell University (1948-1951), President of the University of Toledo (1951-1958), and President, later Chancellor, at Northeastern University (1959-1981). Doris Oberg attended many university functions with her husband, Rudolph O. Oberg, and took pictures. Rudolph Oberg was a member of Northeastern University Class of 1926. He was director of Alumni Affairs at Northeastern University for over 25 years and worked there for nearly 50 years. Rudolph Oberg died in 1973, and Doris Oberg died in March 1993. Carl Stephens Ell was the second President of Northeastern University from 1940 to 1959. He was born in Staunton, Indiana on November 14, 1887, son of Jacob and Alice (Stephens) Ell.
